Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) will host a new Level 3 Communications content distribution network (CDN) node, following the signing of an agreement between the two companies. TradeArabia reports that the new Level 3 CDN node, which will be hosted within Etisalat’s SmartHub facility, will provide network reach, performance and scalability to the UAE-based telco’s regional customers. The agreement expands Etisalat’s portfolio of services leveraging CDN for video and other bandwidth-intensive offerings. ‘We are pleased to be hosting such a large and well-recognised global CDN provider in the UAE,’ commented Ali Amiri, executive vice president of Etisalat Carrier and Wholesale Services, adding: ‘Etisalat is constantly improving the speed and quality of internet services provided to our UAE and greater MENA subscribers. This is done by constantly implementing advanced technologies like CDN and understanding the exact requirements of the market.’ Etisalat and Level 3’s CDN will localise delivery of internet traffic as a way to meet their customers’ huge growth in demand for internet services.
