Aftel bags two universal access projects

State-owned telco Afghan Telecom (Aftel) has been selected by sector watchdog the Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA) to install 1,000 public call offices (PCOs) in remote areas of 34 provinces. Aftel also successfully bid for a second universal access project, to connect nine universities to optical fibre networks for the provision of high speed broadband services. Both schemes were funded by the Telecom Development Fund (TDF).
