Zamtel planning LTE rollout as its calls on ZICTA for 4G licence

Zambia Telecommunication Company (Zamtel), which operators in the mobile sector via its wholly-owned subsidiary Zamtel Mobile (previously known as Cell Z), is said to be planning the rollout of an LTE network. According to IT Web Africa, the operator has applied to the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) for an LTE concession, with Zamtel chief technical officer, Sydney Mupeta, cited as saying: ‘We asked ZICTA for frequency bands to be utilised for 4G and we are still waiting for response.’ In response, communications minister Christoper Yaluma has voiced support for Zamtel’s plans, stating that he would ‘ensure that [ZICTA] gives [Zamtel] the license as soon as possible.’
