6 Mar 2013

US mobile giant AT&T Mobility has turned on its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Juneau, Alaska, marking its second 4G deployment in the state; it launched in Anchorage in October 2012. Scott Meyers, director of sales for AT&T Mobility in Alaska, commented: ‘Last year alone, AT&T made more than 20 wireless network upgrades in Juneau to enhance speeds, reliability and performance for our customers. These upgrades included activating new cell sites, adding capacity, deploying high-capacity Ethernet connections to cell sites, and upgrading cell sites so that today we can provide 4G LTE to people in Juneau’. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Alaska is the only US state not yet covered by rival Verizon’s nationwide LTE network.
