Vee trio looking to swap WiMAX for TD-LTE

WiMAX provider Vee Telecom is expected to bid for a 700MHz licence in December 2013 to facilitate a shift from WiMAX to Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE), Digi Times writes, citing unnamed sources. In December last year, the National Communications Commission (NCC) approved investments made by Vee in rival WiMAX operators Tatung Infocomm and VMAX, which saw Vee purchase all shares in Tatung and a 72.43% stake in VMAX. However the NCC included the caveat that the providers must still fulfil the obligations of their concessions, including 70% service coverage. According to Digi Times, the trio are expanding their networks with a view to meeting their licence requirements by Q3 2013. Vee is then expected to seek permission from the NCC to merge the three companies and switch to a TD-LTE platform.
