Jorge Arreaza, Venezuela’s Minister of Science and Technology, announced this week that cellco Movilnet, part of state-owned telco CANTV, is to offer devices with digital terrestrial television (DTT) reception, rapidtvnews reports. Following Venezuela’s official launch of DTT trials on 21 February 2013, the Minister explained that in the country’s main cities, DTT channels will be transmitted to CANTV which in turn transmits them through fibre-optics for broadcasting via Venezuela’s national Simon Bolivar satellite; transmission antenna will then receive the signal and send it to set-top boxes, mobile phones, tablets and other devices. Movilnet’s first DTT-compatible devices are manufactured by Huawei and Samsung.
