Bahrain-backed cellco Umniah has partnered with US voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) provider Skype to provide additional voice services, primarily to Umniah’s 3G ‘Evo’ users. AME Info writes that, under the deal, ‘Evo’ subscribers will be given an extended data cap, enabling them to make more free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls, which do not consume the customer’s voice allowance. Further, Umniah’s subscribers will gain easier access to other Skype features such as instant messaging. Commenting on the agreement, Umniah CEO Ihab Hinnawi said: ‘Our partnership is a breakthrough as it gives our customers unlimited, global communications options, while expanding their calling community to hundreds of millions of Skype users worldwide.’
