Hot on the heels of Chilean cellco Claro announcing it plans to launch Long Term Evolution (LTE) services within the next few weeks, rival operator Movistar has signed up Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to begin deploying an LTE network in the 2.6GHz band. NSN will begin by deploying LTE base stations in the Greater Santiago area, as well as in other cities such as Vaparaiso and Vina del Mar. The two have also teamed up for the expansion of Movistar’s W-CDMA network. No financial details were disclosed.
