China Mobile’s trial Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in Guangzhou and Shenzhen are nearing commercial service level, Hong Kong paper The Standard quoted the cellco as saying, spurring rumours of an imminent launch of 4G services. The cellco completed construction of 3,700 4G-enabled base stations in Guangzhou and 2,800 in Shenzhen by the end of December 2012. However sector regulator the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has not yet revealed its schedule for issuing 4G licences, which are expected this year.
