Text on fire? Hot news for kings of neon

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has provided 600 specialised mobile phones free of charge to the Ghana National Fire Service at a cost of GHS120,000 (USD63,000), as part of a project to procure a total of 4,000 cellphones for emergency response purposes. Other organisations to receive handsets under the programme this year include the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Ghana Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service, GIFEC announced on its website. GIFEC, an agency of the Ministry of Communications, is also involved in ICT programmes including the National School Connectivity Project, while it recently announced a move to furnish Ghana’s prisons with computers and internet connectivity. GIFEC also recently supplied ICT facilities at a cost of USD60,000 to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre in Accra, forming part of GIFEC’s Security Connectivity Project.
