DoCoMo eyes 700MHz LTE in 2015

20 Feb 2013

NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest cellco by subscribers, says that it has developed the country’s first base station antenna that supports five frequency bands, including the 700MHz band earmarked for Long Term Evolution (LTE) services. The company intends to begin installing 700MHz-compatible base stations ‘soon’ in preparation for the new spectrum, which is to become available for commercial LTE use in Japan from early 2015. The additional spectrum will help accommodate the expected rise in data traffic as Japan’s mobile subscribers continue to migrate to LTE.
