TOT’s national 3G service launches on 22 February; 4G trial going ahead

19 Feb 2013

Thai state-owned telco TOT has set 22 February 2013 as the official commercial launch date for its nationwide 3G mobile service. TOT has belatedly finished an expansion of its 2100MHz W-CDMA/HSPA network from existing coverage of the Bangkok area to provinces across the country, and will launch the expanded service over 4,063 base stations initially, with the full complement of 5,300 3G cell sites to go live in April. TOT is promising 3G tariffs comparable to 2G prices, starting at THB299 (USD9.99) a month for 2GB of data usage, or a monthly fee of THB899 for an unlimited package, reports the Bangkok Post.

TOT also confirmed that it will launch a 4G LTE trial on existing 2100MHz spectrum this week at 100 sites.

Elsewhere, as part of its transformation strategy to ensure profitability in the future, TOT will sign a partnership agreement with free television stations this Friday to rent its telecom networks for broadcasting programmes.
