Companhia Santomense de Telecomunicacoes (CST), the incumbent provider of fixed, mobile and data services in Sao Tome and Principe, announced last week the commercial launch of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network. The Portugal Telecom subsidiary said the move will bring faster speeds, lower latency and higher network quality to the country, adding that 50 customers have already signed up to the new service. The launch of the FTTH network follows the activation of the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine cable late last year. The 17,000km system runs from France to South Africa, with landing points in a number of countries along the west coast of Africa, including Sao Tome and Principe.
