According to Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA), the country’s total wireless subscriber base stood at 25.6 million at the end of 2012, up 21% year-on-year. In terms of operators, MTN heads the pack with 11.7 million subscribers, corresponding to a market share of 46% – more than double Vodafone’s 5.3 million subscriber base, which accounts for 21% of the market. In third place is Tigo with 3.7 million subscribers and a 14% share, just ahead of Airtel with 3.2 million (12%). Bringing up the rear are Glo and Expresso with 6% and 1% respectively. In the fixed line sector, Ghana had 284,981 fixed lines at 31 December 2012, with 274,661 belonging to Vodafone and the remainder attributed to Airtel.
