Vodafone Ireland reports 48% of users now own smartphones

Mobile network operator Vodafone Ireland has announced that almost half of all its users – or 48% – now own a smartphone, bolstered by net additions of 95,000 new smartphone users in the fourth quarter of 2012 alone – up 37.5% year-on-year. The cellco increased its overall customer base by a net 18,300 accounts in Q4 2012, for a total of 2.201 million by the end of the year. Of these, contract users stood at 778,900, it said. Meanwhile, the carrier’s fixed line and mobile unit closed out last year with a total of 246,600 subscribers, up 3.2% on a quarterly basis.
