EE reveals next 27 locations for LTE deployment

8 Feb 2013

UK mobile network operator EE has outlined plans for expanding coverage of its fourth-generation LTE network, with the cellco revealing that it aims to switch the infrastructure on in 27 new towns by June 2013. Should it achieve this target, it notes that this will bring the number of locations where it offers its LTE-based services to 65 towns and cities in total. Between April and June this year EE has set out its stall to extend its 4G footprint to the following locations: Aldershot, Ashford, Basildon, Basingstoke, Blackpool, Bracknell, Camberley, Colchester, Crawley, Farnborough, Guildford, Horsham, Huddersfield, Leatherhead, Maidstone, Milton Keynes, Oldham, Oxford, Redhill, Reigate, Sevenoaks, Stevenage, Tonbridge, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Warrington, Wigan and Woking. In detailing its future plans, the mobile operator also issued an update on its current 4G coverage levels, claiming that the infrastructure currently covers 45% of the UK population, with the figure expected to reach more than 55% ‘by summer’.

Commenting on the network rollout, EE’s chief executive officer Olaf Swantee noted: ‘We’re set to cover more than half of the UK population by summer, staying ahead of the schedule that we set for ourselves at launch.’
