According to Vodacom Tanzania’s head of branding and communications, Kelvin Twissa, the total value of transactions on the cellco’s mobile money service M-PESA have passed the USD621.7 million mark. The service, which was launched in 2008, also boasted more than 4.5 million active subscribers at the end of last year, he said. Twissa went on to say that Vodacom hopes to further increase the user base in 2013, and is targeting having over 600 SMEs and six million individual (consumer accounts) by the year end.
