Incumbent fixed line operator Uzbektelecom invested UZS138 billion (USD67.5 million) in network expansion and modernisation in 2012. Uzdaily writes that the telco added 292,000 subscriber lines whilst its wireless unit, Uzmobile, deployed 140 new base stations and five switching centres. As a result of the network development, Uzmobile increased its footprint to 71%, covering 8,440 settlements. Going forward, Uzbektelecom plans to increase spending on network elements to UZS158 billion in 2013.
