K2 Telecom, a locally owned startup and the newest entrant into Uganda’s crowded wireless market has signed up 82,000 mobile users within its first month, the Daily Monitor cites the provider’s CEO Saul Katumba Segawa as saying. The cellco launched on 1 January 2013, but is yet to sign interconnection agreements with the nation’s entrenched telcos, though Segawa claimed that K2 was in the process of finalising the deals, and calls to other networks would be available to K2 subscribers within ‘just a few days’.
