Vietnamese military-owned telecoms company Viettel generated revenue of VND141.4 trillion (USD6.7 billion) in the twelve months ended 31 December 2012, compared to the VND116.6 trillion reported the previous year, reports Vietnam Business News. Profit for 2012 totalled VND27.5 trillion, up from around VND20 trillion in 2011. The company aims to increase sales by between 15% and 20% in 2013 to VND162 trillion and targets profit of VND34.6 trillion for the year. As well as its domestic fixed, mobile and internet operations, Viettel has a presence in a number of overseas markets, including Laos, Cambodia, Mozambique, Haiti and Peru. In July 2012 the firm was announced as the recipient of one of Timor-Leste’s two new 15-year telecoms licences, and the following December secured Cameroon’s third mobile telephony licence.
