Thai telecoms operators Advanced Info Service (AIS) and True Corp have confirmed that they are among the line-up of foreign operators to have submitted expressions of interest (EoI) in telecoms licences up for grabs in Myanmar. Somprasong Boonyachai, vice chairman of AIS’ board, and True’s CEO Suphachai Chearavanont both confirmed submitting an EoI to the Myanmar government, Thai newspaper The Nation reported. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, an EoI is also thought to have been submitted by Telenor, the parent of the two Thai firms’ domestic cellular rival DTAC. Previously, quadruple-play group True said it was interested in setting up a pay-TV business in Myanmar.
