Telekom Malaysia surpasses 500,000 fibre subscribers

28 Jan 2013

Malaysian fixed line incumbent Telekom Malaysia™ has announced that it has now signed up more than 500,000 subscribers to its fibre-based services, the Star Online reports. Offered under the ‘UniFi’ banner, TM launched its fibre services in March 2010, and the company has trumpeted the success of the services, with executive vice president of marketing (consumer) Imri Mokhtar claiming that take-up rates were ahead of global benchmarks of similar service roll-outs. ‘At the current rate of more than 35%, our take-up shows no signs of slowing down,’ the executive was cited as saying.

Alongside reporting its latest subscriber data, the telco has also confirmed that UniFi is now available in 94 areas covering more than 1.34 million premises passed, including 64 areas in the Klang Valley, five in Penang, four in Kedah, nine in Johor, two in Melaka, two in Negeri Sembilan, two in Perak, one in Terengganu, one in Pahang, one in Sabah and three in Sarawak.
