IT&E, a provider of telecommunications services in Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), has announced the launch of a GSM network on the Marianas island of Rota. Last month three GSM base stations were installed at pre-existing CDMA sites in Sinapalo, Sonsong and Northern Marianas College, enabling subscribers to experience the same coverage as IT&E’s CDMA network. ‘This is the latest step in our continuing effort to bring improved products and services to people of the Marianas,’ said IT&E managing director, CNMI, Rose Soledad, adding: ‘Our technicians are currently working on projects that will further improve our region’s most complete communications network.’ As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, IT&E launched a Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network in Guam in July last year, offering maximum download speeds of up to 20Mbps.
