China Mobile aims to sell 120m TD-SCDMA handsets in 2013

23 Jan 2013

China Mobile, the largest cellco in the world by subscribers, sold over 60 million devices compatible with its home grown 3G platform TD-SCDMA, including seven million in December alone, Engadget cites the carrier’s products manager Wang Hengjiang as saying. In 2013, China Mobile aims to sell twice as many 3G devices and expects smartphones to be used by 80% of the market. Wang added that the provider’s 4G Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) network would be open for user trials later this year. As previously noted by CommsUpdate, China Mobile ended 2012 with 710.3 million active users, including 87.9 million 3G subscribers.
