Telstra Global and Infinera achieve 100Gbps signal over 4,200km Hawaii-California submarine link

22 Jan 2013

Telstra Global and Infinera have announced the first successful demonstration of a 100Gbps optical signal enhanced with Soft Decision Forward Error Correction (SD-FEC) across segment ‘S5’ of the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable. The segment in question spans 4,200km and links Oahu, Hawaii with San Luis Obispo, California. Telstra Global forecasts more than 60% annual growth in its trans-Pacific submarine cable traffic over the next three years.

The 20,000km AAG – a joint venture between 19 international telcos – provides connectivity between Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines, Guam and Hawaii; it was ready for service in November 2009.
