Kyrgyz mobile operator Megacom has said in a press release on its website that it installed an additional 24 GSM 900/1800 base stations during the final month of 2012, bringing its total across the country to more than 1,300. In particular, the cellco has improved coverage in the cities of Bishkek and Osh, while work has also been carried out to extend coverage in rural and remote areas, including the villages of Fedorovka (Chui), Min-Kush (Naryn), Dzhardyk (Osh) and Dzhalgyz-Oryuk (Jalal-Abad). Work has also been carried out to expand and improve availability of 3.5G services in a number of areas in Kyrgyzstan. Megacom says it plans to continue expanding network coverage during 2013, with the aim of covering 95% of the population by the end of the year.
