Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is aiming to issue an invitation to tender for next generation mobile network operating licences on 24 January 2013, according to a report by Gulf Daily. Following the expiry of a deadline for public responses to the regulator’s consultation on the licensing process on 10 January, the country is reportedly hoping to finalise the 4G awards this quarter, ahead of the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix which takes place on 21 April. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in November 2012 the TRA announced that it would release the earmarked 2×70MHz of 4G spectrum in the bands 2500MHz–2570MHz and 2620MHz–2690MHz in its entirety immediately after concluding the licence award process sometime in Q1 2013.
