Verizon to sell 700MHz ‘A block’ licence in Oklahoma to US Cellular

9 Jan 2013

Chicago-based mobile operator US Cellular has signed an agreement with Verizon Wireless to acquire the company’s Oklahoma City 700MHz ‘A block’ licence covering Oklahoma City and 31 other counties within the state of Oklahoma – equivalent to a footprint of around 1.9 million people. The transaction is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The purchase agreement marks Verizon’s latest deal to offload spectrum holdings in the lower 700MHz band. Indeed, since 2011 Verizon has sold or has agreed to sell 37 of its lower 700MHz concessions to eleven different telecoms firms, including a previous sale to US Cellular. Verizon also confirms that it continues to evaluate bids for its other 700MHz licences.
