National fixed line incumbent Grupo ICE will remove public payphones in areas that they receive little use or excessive vandalism as part of an effort to reduce expenses, TeleSemana reports, citing ICE CEO Teofilo de la Torre. Torre said that phones would not be taken from places such as hospitals, airports and ports, adding that the company had submitted a request to the National Telecommunications Fund (Fonatel) for funding to maintain its payphones.
