Sonatel, which offers mobile services in Senegal under the Orange Senegal banner, plans to trial 3.5G high speed packet access (HSPA) technology during the upcoming Touba pilgrimage, at the start of January. The trial will use 40 non-permanent HSPA-equipped base transceiver stations (BTS) in Touba, Mbacke and Diourbel to provide mobile internet access, as well as 184 BTS capable of supporting voice and SMS mobile services.
