Etisalat Misr contracts Ericsson for network improvements

2 Jan 2013

Egyptian cellco Etisalat Misr has reportedly selected Swedish vendor Ericsson to transform its network with a view to enhancing mobile broadband speeds and improving the quality of service it offers. According to Trade Arabia, under the terms of the deal Ericsson will provide its RBS 6000 radio base station technology which, it is claimed, will improve energy efficiency while enabling Etisalat Misr to meet the increasing data demands of its burgeoning subscriber base. Further, the network upgrade is also expected to prepare the infrastructure for the provision of fourth-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) services at some point in the future, with the RBS 6000 multi-standard base station also expected to minimise Etisalat Misr’s operational expenses and reduce environmental impact.

Saeed Al Hamli, Etisalat Misr’s chief executive officer, was cited as saying of the development: ‘Demand for voice and data services is constantly increasing. This is why we are always striving to cater to our subscribers’ needs by continuously upgrading our network and adopting the latest technology.’
