US Cellular reveals plans to launch LTE in 30 new markets

1 Nov 2012

US Cellular, in conjunction with its partner, King Street Wireless, has announced that it will be introducing Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in more than 30 new markets on Monday 5 November. The rollout is set to expand the cellco’s 4G footprint in select cities in Iowa, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Oklahoma, and will also introduce LTE coverage to some of US Cellular’s leading markets in Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. The next wave of market launches is expected to follow shortly in Rockford (Illinois), Medford (Oregon), Yakima (Washington) and Knoxville (Tennessee). David Kimbell, senior vice president of marketing, commented: ‘With more than half of our customers having access to 4G LTE speeds by the start of the holiday season, we are helping customers simplify and organise their lives more quickly and easier than ever’.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the Chicago-based mobile operator inaugurated its long-rumoured LTE network in March this year, going live in select cities in Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
