TT taps Alca-Lu for VDSL2 rollout

31 Oct 2012

Turk Telekom (TT), Turkey’s leading communications and convergence technologies company by revenue and subscribers, has started to deploy French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent’s VDSL2 technology to enable it to deliver premium services such as high-definition television and video-on-demand (VoD) over its existing copper infrastructure. The rollout is part of TT’s ‘FiberkenTT’ strategic plan, which seeks to leverage its existing copper wire infrastructure in the so-called ‘last-mile’ of the connection; this approach utilises Alca-Lu’s 7353 ISAM fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) solution. Memet Atalay, TT’s vice president of operations, commented: ‘Alcatel-Lucent’s FTTB solution is instrumental to this. It helps us prepare for a long-term network transformation, leveraging a smart mix of copper and fibre access technologies to realise the highest speeds in the most cost-effective way’.
