ANCOM consults on use of 900MHz, 1800MHz for 4G

29 Oct 2012

Romanian telecoms regulator ANCOM has published a draft decision aimed at allowing the use of the 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands for the introduction of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX technology. At present, the rights of use related to these bands are held by three operators – Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania and Cosmote Romania – and if the decision is eventually approved by ANCOM, the trio will all be permitted to introduce 4G services using re-farmed spectrum with immediate effect; Romania Cable Systems (RCS&RDS) acquired 900MHz spectrum in the watchdog’s recent spectrum auction, but has yet to implement services over it. Submissions are invited until 5 November 2012.
