Qtel extends FTTH contract with Huawei

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has expanded a contract with China’s Huawei to implement the second phase of its national rollout of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband infrastructure, providing 90,000 additional 100Mbps connections. Qtel’s FTTH network already passes 126,000 homes, with 30,000 connected to the network and 10,000 currently receiving services, and the telco is aiming for near-nationwide FTTH coverage within two years. The company’s press release said that ‘thanks to its insights into Qtel’s network conditions and business development, Huawei won the carrier’s FTTH Phase II contract. Huawei will provide a turnkey solution which integrates the central equipment room, optical distribution nodes (ODNs), optical line supervision (OLS), optical access equipment, and other equipment.’
