NEC to boost Polkomtel network

Japanese vendor NEC has been selected by Polish cellco Polkomtel to enhance the provider’s mobile access network. Under the three-year contract NEC will deploy IP-based microwave links to increase the capacity and efficiency of the operator’s 3G backhaul network. NEC will provide its iPASOLINK series of microwave radio solutions and its MS5000 management system. Nicolae Varvara, NEC’s managing director for Eastern Europe noted that: ‘Demand from mobile operators for the renovation of mobile access networks in order to effectively manage continuing mobile traffic increases is gaining momentum worldwide.’
