Minister hints at ‘full’ MVNO for Togo

11 Oct 2012

Togo’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications of Togo Cina Lawson has said that the government is considering plans to call for expressions of interest from companies looking to secure licences to become a ‘full-blown’ mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the country. If realised, the newcomers would go into direct competition with current incumbents Togo Cellulaire (Togocel) and Atlantique Telecom (Moov Togo), and fixed line PTO Togo Telecom, which also offers service for its mobile product using wireless in the local loop (WiLL) technology. Online journal PrepaidMVNO cites the minister as saying she is tasked with identifying business opportunities by monitoring markets and innovative technologies in Togo.
