Vanuatu’s Telecommunications and Radiocommunications Regulator (TRR) has reportedly issued Telecom Vanuatu (TVL) and Digicel Vanuatu additional spectrum for WiMAX, the latter has announced. In a press release regarding the development, Digicel Vanuatu cited TRR Radio Engineer Barnabas Boe as saying that ‘in addition to the radio spectrum initially allocated to TVL and Digicel under their Telecommunications Service Licences in 2008, both licensees have since applied for additional spectrum for the delivery of telecom services to the public.’ With the watchdog understood to have ensured that the operators had complied with the obligations set out by the original concessions, it has been confirmed that the additional frequencies were issued to Digicel and TVL in May 2012 and August 2012 respectively. Alan Horne, Vanuatu’s Telecommunications Regulator, meanwhile said of the development: ‘We welcome this new investment made by TVL and Digicel and the new services which will be offered.’
