Superonline removes international internet boundaries

Turkcell Superonline, the wholly-owned fibre-optic broadband subsidiary company of Turkish mobile giant Turkcell, has announced that it has turned Istanbul into a regional internet hub, after lifting the boundaries between countries and initiating a so-called ‘internet without a visa’ era through the signing of a number of direct access agreements. Superonline, which has nine international gateways, enabling connections with important European internet exchange points in the likes of Sofia, London and Amsterdam, has collaborated with Tier-1 telecoms operators such as Tata Communications, Deutsche Telekom and Inteliquent on the initiative. Murat Erkan, general manager of Turkcell Superonline, commented: ‘Four years ago Turkcell Superonline’s aim had been to transform the Silk Road into the Fibre Road. Today, this is a reality’.
