NTT DoCoMo takes social gaming mobile

27 Sep 2012

The Japanese cellular operator NTT DoCoMo is set to launch social gaming for its subscribers from November this year. According to a report from Telecompaper, which cites local newspaper the Nikkei, at launch the service will feature around 30 games from more than ten developers. The games, which will be offered not only to DoCoMo’s own subscribers but to customers of other operators as well, will be provided free, but users will be invited to buy virtual goods during game play. The operator will share 80% of the revenues with game developers, the report suggests. NTT DoCoMo is Japan’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, with over 60 million customers and a 46.5% market share according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
