Orange introduces new fixed line service using mobile network

25 Sep 2012

Spanish mobile network operator Orange Espana has unveiled a new service which will provide residential customers with a fixed line voice service using its mobile network. The cellco claims that the ‘Mi Fijo’ service offers a number of benefits over traditional fixed line voice services, notably that there is no line rental fee. Costing EUR10 (USD13) per month, Orange has confirmed that customers can transfer existing telephone numbers to the Mi Fijo service, while the operator has also claimed that the package offers what is one of the lowest call rates to landline numbers in the country of EUR0.10 per minute.

Mi Fijo was initially launched for business users only back in mid-2010, and today Orange claims that some 40,000 lines have been connected.
