FastWeb denies Swisscom sale rumours

21 Sep 2012

FastWeb chief operating officer Alberto Calcagno has refuted press reports suggesting that parent company Swisscom is considering cashing in on the Italian broadband operator, dismissing the rumours as ‘groundless’. With reference to the Swiss company’s recent commitment to invest EUR400 million (USD516.8 million) in the expansion of FastWeb’s fibre-optic broadband network, Calcagno told La Stampa: ‘This is not an issue on the agenda of our shareholders, especially in the wake of such an important investment’. Such a move, he added, would be ‘counterintuitive’.
