Burkina Faso’s Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) has reported that the country ended 2011 with a total of 7.823 million fixed and mobile subscribers, up from 5.851 million twelve months earlier. Wireline connections of fixed line incumbent Office Nationale des Telecommunications (Onatel) numbered 141,529 at 31 December 2011, down from 143,963 a year earlier. Its wholly owned mobile unit Telmob, meanwhile, accounted for 38.67% of total wireless subscribers, just behind Indian-owned Airtel Burkina Faso with 39.24%, but ahead of Telecel Faso with 22.09%. ARCEP also reported a total of 340,025 internet subscribers at the end of 2011.
