Togo government to go on offensive over costly cable theft epidemic

Togo’s telecommunications minister Cina Lawson says the government is stepping up efforts to stop copper cable theft in the country. Thieves who are intent on stealing copper – as a result of the rising price of the raw material – are costing Togo Telecom a minimum of XOF2 billion (USD4 million) per annum to replace the cables, not to mention the inconvenience caused to its ADSL customers over disruptions in their service.
