According to the latest market statistics released by Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA), Vodafone has seen its share of the country’s cellular market fall slightly during July. The firm ended the month with 4.76 million customers, down from 4.82 million at end-June, with its market share falling from 21% to 20% over the same period. The losses at Vodafone have come on the back of the launch of the sector’s fifth network operator, Glo Mobile, at the end of April this year. Glo saw its own base increase from 990,566 at end-June to 1.15 million a month later, to give it a 5% market share. Meanwhile, market leader MTN added 70,611 net new users in July to end the month with 10.83 million subscribers, while third and fourth placed operators Tigo and Airtel ended July with 3.70 million and 3.04 million customers respectively.
