Wireless Nation puts the Chat amongst the pigeons with Waitangi deployment

5 Sep 2012

Auckland-based internet service provider (ISP) Wireless Nation has announced that it has responded to New Zealand telecoms minister Amy Adams’ recent appeal for connectivity solutions on the far-flung Chatham Islands by installing a wireless base station in the town of Waitangi. A company press release confirmed: ‘The hilly terrain at Chatham Island does not exactly scream ‘network-friendly’, but here at Wireless Nation, we love nothing more than a challenge!’

The Chatham Islands is an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean situated roughly 680km south-east of New Zealand. Chatham consists of about ten islands within a 40km radius, the largest of which are Chatham Island and Pitt Island. The territory has officially been part of New Zealand since 1842, and includes the country’s easternmost point, the Forty-Fours.
