LycaMobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that specialises in low-cost international calls, is set to commence operations in the United States next month, as part of a plan to double its revenues. The Financial Times quotes Subaskaran Allirajah, chairman of LycaMobile, as saying: ‘This move into the US marks a significant step change in the global ambitions of LycaMobile. Our services are already available to over 500 million people across Europe and Australia, and the launch in the US will add a further 300 million people who will be able to take advantage of the LycaMobile proposition’. According to the FT, the MVNO is in the final stages of testing the technology that will be used in North America. The company is expected to focus on key markets such as California, New York and New Jersey, and will set up its own data centres in the region to service its data and voice calls.
