Baltcom Latvia acquires two regional ISPs

The Latvian cable TV operator Baltcom has acquired two regional internet service providers (ISPs), local website Db.lv reports. Baltcom has purchased LainNet, which provides services in the towns of Olaine and Jaunolaine plus Latvijas Datoru Tikls, which covers Salaspils. Financial details were not disclosed. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Baltcom (originally known as Baltkom) was founded in Riga in June 1991 and launched cable TV services the following year, before going on to establish itself as a provider of triple-play CATV, telephony and broadband via cable modem. It operates a nationwide cable network that reaches approximately 185,000 households, as well as a multichannel multipoint distribution service (MMDS) signal that reaches up to 360,000 families and businesses.
