Brazilian-owned telecoms group Oi SA, the company formed through the restructuring of Telemar Participacoes’ former operating divisions Brasil Telecom, Tele Norte Leste Participacoes, Coari Participacoes and Telemar Norte Leste, says it has extended the operational footprint of its national broadband plan – Plano Nacional de Banda Larga (PNBL) – to a total of 1,772 municipalities in the country. Offered under the banner ‘Oi Velox’, the telco says the service has been rolled out to a further 120 localities, adding that by late-2014 it hopes to have coverage of all 4,800 in its areas of operation. It is understood that through the latest expansion works, the following locations have been added in August: Alagoas, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceara, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Piaui, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins.
