Nepal’s telecoms regulator, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), says the number of fixed and mobile telephony subscribers reached 16.979 million as 14 June 2012 (Nepal calendar, Jestha 2069), taking overall teledensity to 63.76 per 100 of population. At that date, the mountain Kingdom was home to more than 14.223 million GSM and 832,292 CDMA mobile subscribers, as well as 841,020 fixed telephony (PTSN and WiLL), and 1.082 million other wireless connections (LMS and GMPCS). At the same date the NTA said the total number of data and internet subscribers stood at 4.944 million, with the overwhelming majority (over 4.605 million) arising from GPRS mobile internet connections. The number of ADSL connections topped 86,980 for NT, with cable modem, CDMA 1x and other (wireless, fibre-optic) reaching 17,958, 184,937 and 33,798 respectively.
